The goodforfree browser extension replaces your new tab with a feed of articles on topics you choose. Ads shown alongside that content earn revenue, and we use a share of it to fund food aid.
1. What we collect
- Feed activity: the articles you open in the feed. Your topics and settings stay on your device.
- Email address: optional. Used to sync your topics across devices, send the digest, and reply to you.
- Feedback chat: your messages, your email if we have one, your IP address and browser.
- IP address: turned into an approximate city and country.
2. What we don't collect
Your browsing history, the pages you visit, your open tabs, your bookmarks and downloads, page contents, what you type, your passwords or form data, and your precise location.
3. How we use it
To build your feed, to recommend articles, to run and secure the service, to answer your feedback, and to understand usage in aggregate.
4. We don't sell your data
We do not sell or share your personal information, including as "sell" and "share" are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not use your browsing history to target advertising.
5. Who we share it with
- Digital Ocean: runs our servers.
- OpenRouter and OpenAI: the titles of articles you open, to score your interests; your chat messages, to write the instant replies.
- ip-api.com: your IP address, to return an approximate location.
- Brevo: chat notifications sent to us, including the transcript and your email.
- Google Fonts: the new tab page loads its typeface from Google, which receives your IP.
- Google AdSense and Monetag: on goodforfree.com only; they receive your IP and set their own cookies under their own policies.
We also disclose data when the law requires it, to protect our rights or users' safety, and to a buyer if our business is sold.
6. The chat replies are written by AI
Instant replies in the feedback chat come from an AI assistant, not a person, and your messages are also emailed to our team. Don't send passwords, payment details, or anyone else's personal data.
7. How long we keep it
- Interest profile and feed activity: 1 month after your last use.
- IP location lookups and server logs: less than a month.
8. Your choices
In the extension: change or remove your email, change your topics, and uninstall. Uninstalling stops all collection.
Email management@hbf.capital to access, correct, delete or export your data, or to withdraw consent. We reply within 30 days and never treat you differently for asking.
EEA/UK. Our legal bases are your consent (personalisation and the optional email), our legitimate interests (security and abuse prevention), and performance of our contract with you. You may object, restrict processing, or complain to your data protection authority.
9. International transfers
Our servers are in the United States and our providers may process data elsewhere. Transfers out of the EEA/UK rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum.
10. Children
Not intended for anyone under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK. We do not knowingly collect their data; tell us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use encrypted connections, password protected admin access, and limit who can see your data. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we notify you and the regulators as the law requires.
12. Google API data
Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
13. Changes
We'll update this page and change the effective date, and tell you in the extension about significant changes.
