Speaking to hundreds of Chinese and Pakistani business leaders, Dar delivered a confident pitch: “Pakistan is open for business. Pakistan is reforming. Pakistan is rising.” His remarks came as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a major delegation to China aimed at reviving industrial cooperation and attracting fresh capital into Pakistan’s struggling economy.<\/p>\n

The conference, focused on information technology, telecommunications, battery storage systems, and agriculture, drew over 500 companies from both nations. Dar emphasized that these sectors are central to Pakistan’s economic transformation and industrial modernization, areas where Chinese expertise and investment could prove game-changing.<\/p>\n

According to Dar, Pakistan and China have now held four business-to-business conferences\u2014two in each country\u2014resulting in more than 300 memorandums of understanding and nearly three dozen joint ventures. Critically, he noted a 30 percent conversion rate from initial agreements to actual contracts, a sign that deals are moving beyond paperwork into real implementation.<\/p>\n

Among the standout developments, the IBI Pakistan Digital Economy Headquarters was established in Islamabad within eight months of initial discussions in Beijing, generating over $1 billion in new agreements. Dar also highlighted an upcoming joint venture between Pakistan’s Servis Group and China’s Longstar Group, with the Chinese firm preparing to establish a billion-dollar operation in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Separately, Indus Motor Company announced plans to invest $335 million over the next five years, pushing its total investment in Pakistan past the $1 billion mark. The Toyota assembler has already contributed $6.3 billion in taxes over 35 years and supports more than 55,000 jobs across its supply chain.<\/p>\n

Dar credited the government’s shift toward economic diplomacy, saying the Foreign Ministry has fundamentally redefined its role by placing business engagement at the heart of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He praised Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, who recently received the Chinese Government Friendship Award for his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties.<\/p>\n

The deputy prime minister also noted that Pakistan had achieved economic stabilization over the past four years despite external pressures, and that the current administration is focused on industrial expansion and sustainable growth.<\/p>\n

Delegations led by Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar Khan and Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain visited leading Chinese industrial firms in Changzhou, including StarCharge Group, a global leader in electric vehicle charging technology, and Changfa Group, a major tractor and agricultural machinery manufacturer. An MoU was signed between Kingsbridge Ventures and Changfa during the visit.<\/p>\n
