Among the most substantial deals was a $1.12 billion agreement between Haolu Engineering and Technology Company and Fauji Fertilizer for fertiliser production, alongside a $100 million memorandum between IBI Beijing United Information Technology and the RIC covering agrochemicals and agricultural machinery.

Addressing Chinese investors and business leaders, Prime Minister Shehbaz presented Pakistan as an attractive destination for Chinese industries facing rising labour costs at home. He proposed a model where Chinese companies could relocate manufacturing operations to Pakistan, establish joint ventures with local entrepreneurs, and export finished goods to international markets—describing it as a mutually beneficial arrangement for both nations.

The prime minister specifically highlighted opportunities in textiles, leather goods, mines and minerals, and agriculture. He revealed plans for a massive special economic zone spanning over 6,000 acres in Karachi, promising modern infrastructure, streamlined regulatory processes, and long-term land leases to attract Chinese investment. Similar zones would later be developed across Pakistan with Chinese cooperation, he announced.

Pakistan’s agricultural sector received particular emphasis during the visit. The prime minister noted that while China imports approximately $100 billion worth of agricultural products annually, Pakistan’s share remains minimal. He expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation could increase Pakistan’s agricultural exports to China by $10 billion over the next five to seven years through improved farming techniques, quality controls, and value addition.

The visit takes place during the 75th anniversary year of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations, with both sides emphasizing the strength of their “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.” Officials indicated that discussions in Beijing would focus on advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, with particular attention to trade expansion, industrial cooperation, agricultural modernization, and technology transfer.

Chinese Minister for Environment and Ecology Huang Runqiu received the prime minister upon his arrival in Beijing. The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

During his Hangzhou engagements, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with executives from major Chinese corporations including StarCharge, CATL, and Xiuzheng Pharmaceutical. Discussions with CATL centered on cooperation in advanced battery technology, energy storage solutions, and solar-linked systems to support Pakistan’s transition toward clean energy.

The prime minister also visited Alibaba headquarters, where he was received by Executive Chairman Joe Tsai, signaling Pakistan’s interest in deepening cooperation in e-commerce and digital economy sectors.

Officials revealed that more than 200 memorandums worth over $20 billion have now been signed across five Pakistan-China business conferences, with approximately 30 percent already converted into formal agreements worth billions of dollars. Implementation of these agreements remains the government’s stated priority.

The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan seeks expertise, investment, and industrial partnerships rather than financial aid, arguing that sustainable economic development can only emerge through productive cooperation. He also highlighted digitization initiatives aimed at training Pakistani youth in information technology and artificial intelligence, providing internationally recognized certifications to help them compete in global markets.

The visit represents a critical diplomatic and economic push by Islamabad as Pakistan grapples with ongoing economic challenges and seeks to leverage its strategic relationship with China to attract foreign investment, create employment opportunities, and modernize key sectors of its economy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s four-day official visit to China has yielded over $7 billion in signed agreements and memorandums of understanding between Pakistani and Chinese companies, marking a significant economic breakthrough as Pakistan seeks to

[8
3,6,9,4
post-61","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan","tag-ai-consensus","tag-express-tribune","tag-geo-news","tag-journalist-ai
https://goodforfree.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/pakistan-secures-7-billion-in-deals-as-pm-shehbaz-courts-chinese-investment-in-beijing.png
["GET
