Three traffic police officers were killed and several others wounded when armed attackers opened fire on their patrol vehicle in broad daylight in Tank district on Monday, marking yet another deadly assault on law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s escalating security crisis.<\/p>\n

The attack unfolded in Wazirabad Bazaar when gunmen targeted the mobile unit, killing three officers on the spot and critically injuring Assistant Sub-Inspector Ismatullah, who was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital. Two civilians caught in the crossfire also sustained injuries, according to District Police Officer Abdul Samad Khan.<\/p>\n

In a brazen move, the attackers seized the police vehicle and fled the scene. Authorities later recovered the stolen mobile from Gara Budha area. Police have since cordoned off major highways and pedestrian routes as manhunt operations continue.<\/p>\n

Just two days earlier, a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into an anti-smuggling checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan’s Darazanda area, killing at least 13 people\u2014including two women and a toddler\u2014and injuring 35 others. The victims included customs officials, rescue workers, and civilians.<\/p>\n

Last week, a devastating explosion tore through a mosque inside Kohat’s Police Lines during Friday prayers, claiming 22 lives, including 16 police officers, and wounding over 100 people. Security forces launched an overnight clearance operation that resulted in eight militants being killed.<\/p>\n

The relentless attacks have placed enormous strain on law enforcement and raised urgent questions about security gaps. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 475 violence-related deaths in the second quarter of 2026 alone\u2014the highest toll among all provinces.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, security forces reported separate successes on Monday. Four militants linked to the group known as Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, with weapons and Afghan currency recovered. In Balochistan’s Nokcha area, two members of the banned Baloch Liberation Army were killed after setting fire to a water tanker and attempting to flee.<\/p>\n
