Pakistani security forces killed 11 militants in two separate counter-terrorism operations across Balochistan on Wednesday, marking the latest escalation in an intensifying campaign against armed groups in the country’s restive southwestern province.

Nine militants died during a fierce engagement in the Kank Valley area of Mastung district after armed fighters attempted to storm a security checkpoint, according to military sources. The assault was quickly repelled, with forces killing two attackers immediately before pursuing the remaining militants who attempted to escape. Seven more were killed during the chase.

The operation, conducted under the ongoing Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3 framework, resulted in one soldier being wounded during the firefight. He was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment. Security personnel recovered three motorcycles along with weapons and ammunition from the slain militants.

In a separate intelligence-driven raid in Turbat city, forces killed two more militants during a targeted strike. The operation followed credible intelligence about militant presence in the Jausak area. An exchange of gunfire erupted during the raid, resulting in both militants being killed. Forces launched a pursuit operation for others who managed to flee the scene.

Military sources described both groups as part of networks allegedly receiving support from Indian intelligence agencies, though no independent verification of these claims was immediately available. Pakistan has consistently accused India of backing separatist and militant groups operating in Balochistan, allegations New Delhi has repeatedly denied.

The twin operations come just one day after security forces killed six militants during Operation Shaaban-II in the Saran Tangi area, also in Balochistan. That raid resulted in nine suspected individuals being detained alongside the recovery of weapons and ammunition.

Balochistan has witnessed a dramatic surge in militant violence over recent years, particularly since 2021. The province, alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has become Pakistan’s primary theater for counter-terrorism operations.

Recent data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies paints a grim picture. During the second quarter of 2026 alone, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa together accounted for 96 percent of all violence-related deaths nationwide. Balochistan specifically recorded 265 fatalities and 94 violent incidents during that period, representing 34 percent of nationwide deaths and 35 percent of total incidents.

The escalation follows a particularly deadly incident last week when security forces rescued 23 hostages after militants established an illegal checkpoint on the N-25 highway near Kalat. Five militants were killed during that operation, which disrupted an extortion and kidnapping scheme targeting travelers.

Military officials emphasized that counter-terrorism operations would continue with full intensity until militant networks are completely dismantled. The operations reflect Pakistan’s broader struggle to contain armed groups operating across its western borderlands, where porous frontiers and difficult terrain provide sanctuary for various militant factions.

As security forces maintain pressure through sustained operations, the human and economic costs continue mounting in a province already grappling with underdevelopment and political grievances that fuel ongoing instability.
