These austerity measures were first introduced in April when Pakistan faced sharply rising domestic fuel prices triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East. Last month, authorities temporarily suspended the rules ahead of Eid ul Adha celebrations observed from May 27 to 29. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved a nationwide exemption until May 31, allowing businesses to operate freely during the festive period.<\/p>\n

Punjab extended relaxed hours until June 1, while Sindh lifted all fixed closing times on May 16 to support traders and stimulate economic activity. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan similarly removed their restrictions, effectively ending energy-saving measures across all provinces temporarily.<\/p>\n

The new timings represent a middle ground between strict conservation efforts and the economic needs of businesses and consumers. However, the lack of immediate provincial compliance notifications suggests potential implementation challenges ahead.<\/p>\n
