The absentees included heavyweight figures like former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, along with Fazal Elahi and Nek Muhammad, signaling potential rebellion within party ranks.

Party insiders revealed that several lawmakers harbor deep resentment toward Chief Minister Sohail Afridi after being excluded from cabinet positions. While most absent members officially cited foreign travel or prior commitments, the mass no-show has triggered alarm bells about PTI’s internal cohesion at a moment when the party faces mounting external pressures.

Afridi attempted damage control during the meeting, insisting the turnout proved party solidarity despite what he called deliberate propaganda campaigns. He declared that no force could break PTI or push members away from imprisoned founder Imran Khan’s vision. The chief minister also raised serious health concerns about Khan, claiming the former prime minister has lost 85 percent vision in one eye and is being denied proper medical care and family access.

But the crisis extends beyond attendance sheets. Just days earlier, senior PTI leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser dropped a political bombshell, warning that his party is actively considering a complete withdrawal from Pakistan’s political system.

Qaiser’s stark warning came after he accused authorities of deliberately detaining him for 40 minutes to make him miss a flight to Skardu for Gilgit-Baltistan election campaigning. He questioned the legitimacy of upcoming GB polls scheduled for June 7, suggesting selection rather than election was taking place.

The former speaker outlined PTI’s demand for a new Charter of Democracy requiring fresh, free and fair elections overseen by a credible Election Commission. However, he made clear that if the party continues facing restrictions and its mandate remains disrespected, dramatic action will follow.

When pressed on whether this meant mass resignations from legislatures or even dissolving the PTI-controlled KP Assembly, Qaiser remained deliberately vague but ominous. He confirmed multiple exit options are under serious consideration, though no final decision has been reached.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan rushed to dismiss reports of any forward bloc forming within the party, insisting all members remain united under Khan’s leadership. He acknowledged that differences of opinion naturally exist in democratic parties but stressed decisions would be made through consensus. KP Information Minister Shafi Jan issued stern warnings that any lawmaker deviating from the party founder’s line would face severe political consequences.

Yet the combination of internal dissent and threats to abandon the political system entirely suggests PTI faces its most serious organizational crisis since Khan’s imprisonment. The party must now navigate between maintaining unity among restless lawmakers while deciding whether to remain within democratic institutions or pursue more confrontational strategies.

For a party that once governed Pakistan and still controls Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the stakes could not be higher. Any decision to exit the system would create unprecedented constitutional uncertainty and potentially trigger a major political realignment across the country.

Pakistan’s main opposition party appears to be fracturing from within as serious cracks emerged in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, with more than a quarter of its lawmakers boycotting a critical parliamentary meeting on Sunday.

[8
3,9,4
post-102","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan","tag-ai-consensus","tag-geo-news","tag-journalist-ai
https://goodforfree.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/pti-on-the-brink-mass-boycott-at-kp-meeting-as-party-threatens-to-abandon-political-system.png
["GET
